Why I Wanted to Serve on the Alumni Council:
Grinnell gave my two daughters and me a great platform for launching into our next endeavors. We all thrived in the Grinnell community, but in very different ways, and then taking very different paths. The intellectual focus of Grinnell, combined with a commitment to social justice, fits very nicely with our family's values, and I am very committed to helping the Grinnell community grow in this vein.
A Quote I Like:
A Little Bit About Me:
I'm a retired college professor and director of a residential learning community. My academic training is in marine animal behavior, but I transitioned to education after finishing my Ph.D. I also picked up club and high school swim coaching along the way, as well as studio pottery. I now focus on working with kids in the foster care system as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer, as a mentor in the local school system, as a baby cuddler in Neonatal Intensive Care, and a swim teacher. In my spare time, I love to read, throw pots in my home studio, and travel with my wife and daughters.
Other Alumni Involvement: GRASP Volunteer; Reunion Committee; Swim Team Alumni Coach, Convocation Speaker
