Why I Wanted to Serve on the Alumni Council:

I wanted to join Grinnell’s Alumni Council to help serve alums, students, and the College in general as we all move forward.  My Grinnell student years were transformative for me because Grinnell offered so many opportunities to solidify my values and to find my way in the world. Serving on the Alumni Council presents yet another pathway for giving back.  I want to be part of ensuring that such rich opportunities continue to abound for current and future students, and to inspire other alums to give back in whatever way they can.  Grinnell students are change agents at all levels of society – alums are proof of that – at a time when change, though challenging, is so needed.

A Quote I Like:

“Now is Life’s Most Precious Time.”

This phrase was the motto of the Vermont summer camp that my Dad’s family ran for 50+ years.  That value so inspired me that I have strived to cherish every moment and every person – and have encouraged others to do the same.

A Little Bit About Me:

I worked in student services for my first career – inspired by my Grinnell experiences – and even returned to Grinnell as a residence hall director for 3 years.  After that career path, I established and ran my own writing & editing business for 20+ years, focusing primarily on health and medical topics.  For nearly 30 years I’ve been involved in various community (local) activities, concentrating on land use & environmental issues.  I am a Cat Person and have an abiding interest in All Things Turtle.

Other Alumni Involvement: Reunion Class Planning Committee; Regional Network Volunteer; and I proudly display a Grinnell College sticker on my car!
