Workshop Time and Date: 7 -8:30 p.m. CST; Thursday, August 20
Workshop Lead: Kristin Szakos ’81 and Emily Silliman ’81

Meet Kristin Szakos ’81 and Emily Silliman ’81

Kristin Szakos '81 is a former vice mayor and city council member in Charlottesville, Virginia. I served as a volunteer coordinator for the 2008 Obama campaign in central Virginia and as statewide coordinator of Organize for America. In addition, I am the former chair of the National League of Cities Youth, Education and Families Council and the Virginia First Cities coalition. I also work as a freelance writer and editor.

Emily Silliman ’81 hesitates to mention that she has worked on political campaigns since the Carter Administration. I was a precinct captain in 2007-08 for the Obama campaign, and in 2020 for the Warren campaign for the Iowa Caucuses. In the 2018 cycle, I organized for the Eric Gjerde campaign for Iowa House in Cedar Rapids, and ran a news and events website called Activate Iowa. I live in Iowa City.
