Mailing is Caring

March 7, 2017 — For four years now, the Everyday Class Notes Facebook group has mailed care packages to every student on Grinnell’s campus. The group is made up of Grinnell alumni but exists entirely independently of the College.

Working with Michelle Czarnecki, assistant director of student programs for the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, the group sent a total of 1,450 packages to help students get through the malaise of a Midwestern winter and give them a boost before mid-semester exams.

Many of the care packages were accompanied by handwritten notes from alumni asking the students about their Grinnell experience, sharing their own, and providing encouragement for the remainder of the semester.

Included with the care packages are postcards so students can write to the alum whose care package they received.
