How to Heal Healthcare
Addressing the Causes of COVID-19 Health Disparities
We’ll walk participants through the view of our health system from two vantage points – family physician delivering patient care, and healthcare innovation professional. How did we get one year into the pandemic with health disparities so drastically thrown into view? What are some efforts taking place to reform our healthcare system?
Workshop Time and Date: Tuesday, May 4 at 7 p.m. CT
Workshop Lead: Kathryn Morcom ’05 & Baylis Beard ’05
Registration will close at May 3, at 5 p.m. CT. For any questions or concerns, please contact Jessica Stewart, senior associate director of alumni and donor relations, at stewarje@grinnell.edu.
Meet Kathryn Morcom ’05 & Baylis Beard ’05
Kathryn Morcom ’05
Kathryn is a family physician working in private practice in Washington D.C. She previously worked a federally qualified community health center, a hospital based practice, and also spent time working in the D.C. jail. She's continuously trying to figure out how to provide the best care for her patients in an environment shaped by the changing frontlines of healthcare.
Baylis Beard ’05
Baylis Beard, MBA, is a healthcare innovation professional. She currently works on the Innovation Learning and Impact team of Blue Shield, leading evaluations for everything from telemedicine, to alternative payment models, to mental health platforms that address community trauma. In her spare time, she gardens, reads, and converts recipes from her childhood in the South into plant-based meals (or disasters, depending on the day).
