Why I Wanted to Serve on the Alumni Council:
I joined in order to try to make a difference in the lives of current Grinnell students, to improve the relationship between the College and the alumni, and to give something back to a place that I hold dear.
A Quote I Like:
"Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard."

A Little Bit About Me:
After a quarter-century as an academic administrator, I am now, once again, a simple Professor of History. While I dearly loved my time as a college provost and president, I am having the time of my life as a professor. I get to teach doctoral students, as well as first-years. I love writing my books about Mexico in the sixteenth century. I am very active in my field, serving on the editorial board of one journal while being the editor of a different one. Anne ('71) and I enjoy traveling when I am invited to give lectures in fun and interesting places.
Other Alumni Involvement: Former Class Agent; Asa Turner Coordinator
