Airport Shuttle Service
Shuttle service is available for Young Alumni Weekend attendees who are arriving or departing from the Des Moines and Cedar Rapids airports. Shuttles may be requested as part of the Young Alumni Weekend registration process. If you have already registered and need to request a shuttle, please call the Office of Development and Alumni Relations at 866-850-1846.
Amtrak
Shuttle service is also available for the Ottumwa Amtrak station. Please call the Office of Development and Alumni Relations at 866-850-1846 to make arrangements for an Amtrak shuttle.
Arrivals and Departures
Arrivals (Airport to Grinnell)
- Shuttles depart the airport at approximately 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., 10:30 p.m.
- You must register for one of the shuttle times listed above.
- If travel delays cause you to miss your requested shuttle, we will work with you to reschedule your transportation.
Departures
- Shuttles depart Grinnell College on Sunday, June 19 at 6 a.m., 9 a.m., 12 p.m., and 1 p.m.
- You must register for one of the shuttle times listed above
- We strongly recommend you sign up for a shuttle that will depart Grinnell at least 2 hours before your flight is scheduled to leave the airport.
Sunday departures
Sunday departure times are: 6 a.m., 9 a.m., 12 p.m., and 1 p.m.
Important Information about Shuttles
You can register for Young Alumni Weekend (and even pay for a shuttle) without providing your flight information, if you have not yet confirmed your plans. Once you purchase your plane/train tickets, you must notify our office and register for the appropriate shuttles.
Providing your travel information
If you are unable to provide travel information at the time of your registration, you will be sent an online form the week of June 6. You will use this form to update your travel information and register for a specific shuttle.
Deadline
The deadline to register for a shuttle is May 31. Any reservations made after that date will be by availability only (for example, if seats become available because someone cancels). A late fee will be assessed.
Confirmation
You will be contacted by email approximately five days before Young Alumni Weekend to confirm shuttle times and information.
Other Transportation Options
Rental Cars
If you would rather have your own car, Des Moines International Airport hosts several rental car companies. A full list of rental car options and contact information is available through the Des Moines Airport rental car website. Please note prices vary.
Taxi
You may also choose to take a taxi to Grinnell. Taxis are available outside of baggage claim and are on duty 24 hours a day. The approximate cost to take a taxi to Grinnell from Des Moines is $135, not including tip.
Uber/Lift
Using an Uber from the Des Moines International Airport to Grinnell College will cost approximately $90-$120 depending on type of vehicle and amenities. Return trips average $110-$170.
Ride Share
We encourage people who are driving to campus and have room for extra passengers to register on our online Ride Share board. Those who need a ride should also register. Check back often to see new posts and connect with others to share rides.
