The Campaign for Grinnell College was publically launched with a lively celebration at Hotel Grinnell on Friday for the College’s Board of Trustees.

Hosted by David Maxwell ’66, Board of Trustees chair, the event demonstrated how Grinnellians come together to serve the College and the greater good.

“We are driven to succeed and acknowledge through our time, talent, experience, and philanthropy that Grinnell has been foundational in who we have all become,” Maxwell said. “In a contemporary world, the intellectual skills and abilities of a liberal arts education that we have all developed in our time at Grinnell are essential to solving challenges before us.”

The comprehensive campaign encompasses all gifts made to the College from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2021. There are six philanthropic campaign priorities: Scholarships and Financial Aid; Individually Advised Teaching and Learning; the Center for Careers, Life, and Service (CLS); the Institute for Global Engagement (IGE); World-Class Facilities; and the Pioneer Fund.

Susan McCurry ’71, retired Trustee and honorary co-chair of the Campaign Committee, encouraged audience members to consider what is worthy of their investment.

“Know that you too can give back in a way that is close to your heart, and will undoubtedly matter to those who are future Grinnell students,” she said.

Event attendees then had a chance to directly interact with College leaders at several engagement zones. Joe Bagnoli, vice president for enrollment and dean of Admission and Financial Aid, chatted about scholarships and financial aid, while Political Science Professor Barbara Trish brought attendees up to speed on the Rosenfield Program. French Professor David Harrison explained how Grinnell’s Global Learning Programs has led to increased cultural awareness and wider world views. And Jaci Thiede, vice president for development and alumni relations, talked with guests about the campaign and the opportunity to get involved.

Thank you for being with us. With your partnership, we are ensuring current and future Grinnellians have the kind of life-changing opportunities and experiences that will enable them to pursue their purposes, passions, and make a meaningful difference in the world.

We truly believe that together, we are greater.
