Reunion 2020 Cancellation FAQ

We know, more than ever, it is important for Grinnellians to come together. Although Reunion 2020 will not take place on campus at its scheduled time, we are committed to finding opportunities for Grinnellians to gather and support each other and their community. While we do not have plans in place yet, please watch for more communication from the Office of Development and Alumni Relations regarding the future of Reunion 2020 classes and other robust ways Grinnellians can be engaged with each other.

In the meantime, please read these FAQs for some common questions and answers. If you do not see an answer to your questions or concern, please feel free to email us at alumni@grinnell.edu.

We understand that information about COVID-19 (coronavirus) is constantly evolving and changing. Because of this, our plans will continue to evolve and change, as well. We appreciate your patience as we all navigate the effects of the pandemic. Please check back often as we will update this information as decisions are reached and more information/news is shared.

FAQ

Will I get my money back for my Reunion 2020 registration?

Yes, we are refunding the full cost of all registrations minus any gifts included with your registration. If you paid by credit card, you should see a credit issued from Grinnell College within the next 30 days. If you paid by check, we will be sending a check to you. It may take up to 30 days to process all registration refunds.

Has Reunion 2020 been rescheduled?

Given the resources involved in hosting Reunion 2020, we do not anticipate a wholesale reschedule of this event. That said, we are already thinking creatively about ways to allow our Reunion 2020 classes to gather though it’s unlikely they will be able to do so at the same time. We are actively looking for the best scenario and will be in contact with alumni once a decision has been reached. We expect to reach a decision before May 1, 2020.

Can I donate my registration fees instead?

Yes. If you would like to re-direct your registration fees to the Support Our Students Fund (SOS Fund), please email alumni@grinnell.edu by Monday, March 23 to indicate your preference. You may also indicate a different designation if you would like.

Can I apply my registration fees to a future Reunion instead of receiving a refund?

No. We will be issuing refunds to all alumni and will not hold registrations for a future date. We apologize if this is an inconvenience.

I already booked my flights to come to Reunion. What should I do?

We would suggest you immediately contact the venue from which you purchased your ticket(s); whether that be a travel agent, a booking website (such as Expedia, Kayak, etc.), or an airline. All airlines and travel partners have been extremely flexible in terms of cancelling flights or giving customers credit for future flights.

Will the College help to cover some (or all) of my travel expenses that I already incurred?

We apologize, but we cannot assist with travel expenses. We do know that all hotels and airlines have been extremely flexible with cancellations given the global pandemic and the cancellation of most large-scale events across the United States and all over the world. Please contact them directly to request a refund or credit.

Is the College still open?

Currently the College is still open. Most non-essential staff are working remotely right now, but Development and Alumni Relations staff all have access to emails and phone. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you need something.

Can I come to campus anyway and just look around?

No. Please do not come to campus at this time. The College is closed to all external visitors and all campus buildings are accessible by P-card only. We encourage all alumni and friends to follow the guidelines outlined by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Institute of Health (NIH), which recommend social distancing and social isolation as the only known way to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We ask that you not put our essential staff and our community members in danger by visiting campus or the Grinnell community.
