COVID-19 Updates for Alumni

The spread of COVID-19 continues to change the world and the work of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations is no different. Please read below for a list of commonly asked questions concerning the pandemic and Grinnell College. As with everything related to the pandemic, this situation remains dynamic and information will change and be updated as circumstances change.

How will the pandemic affect Grinnell College students?

For the latest information about Grinnell College’s plans for students, faculty, and staff in the coming year, we encourage you to visit Grinnell’s COVID-19: Meeting the Challenge resources page.

Will Development and Alumni Relations host on-campus events for alumni this year?

While no decisions have been made about the spring semester, in the interest of community safety, the Office of Development and Alumni Relations will not host on-campus events for the remainder of the 2020 calendar year. Canceled or postponed events include the Hall of Fame induction, the dedication of the Humanities and Social Studies Center, athletic reunions, and Alumni Volunteer Weekend. We know this is disappointing news, but we must all work together to keep our students, faculty, staff, and alumni safe.

Can I host an in-person regional event this fall if I follow my local state or country’s guidelines for gathering?

Because the spread of COVID-19 remains dynamic and because the safety of our community members is our most essential priority, The Office of Development and Alumni Relations will not support any in-person regional events for the remainder of the 2020 calendar year, regardless of your particular location. We will reevaluate this decision for the spring semester later in the year. We are happy to support any virtual events you would like to host. Please visit the virtual events page to learn more information.

I will be traveling through Grinnell soon. Can I tour and visit campus?

Although we are normally glad to have alumni visit campus, at this time we are asking that all visitors please refrain from visiting campus. This is for both your health and safety and that of our community.

Will Alumni Reunion happen in 2021?

We hope so. We are currently planning for a large and successful Reunion in 2021, but as in all things right now, this may change depending upon the spread of COVID-19. We will update all participating Reunion classes as often as we can about the status of Reunion.
