Why I Wanted to Serve on the Alumni Council:

As a class agent, I've been continually impressed by the contributions of my classmates and their dedication to public service. And as a regional planning committee member, I have had opportunities to meet today's students and recent graduates. Clearly Grinnell is launching outstanding adults into the "real" post-graduation world, and I wanted to join the Alumni Council in hopes that I could have some small effect on the success of future students and alums.

A Quote I Like:

To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else - means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting. – e. e. cummings

And the wordsmith in me loves this from Ogden Nash:

The one-l lama,
He's a priest.
The two-l llama,
He's a beast.
And I will bet
A silk pajama
There isn't any
Three-l lllama.

A Little Bit About Me:

I’m enjoying a part-time “encore career” at an organization that promotes professional management in local government. In my “first career” I was director of a program that encompassed publishing, professional development, and “a whole lot of other stuff.” I left and then returned to the organization after a 4-month “sailing sabbatical” with my husband in 2004. My current portfolio is communications and marketing--writing, editing, and website management—which provides an opportunity to delve into substance after years of dealing primarily with budgets, reports, hiring, coaching, and the other responsibilities that accompany a senior management position.

Other Alumni Involvement: Class Agent; Regional Planning Committee
