Why I Wanted to Serve on the Alumni Council:

Grinnell was a defining chapter in my life and I have remained connected since graduating. Now that I’m an empty nester i finally have time to pursue things I’m passionate about, and Grinnell is one of those things. I want to help assure that students now and in the future have the same amazing opportunities I had to discover themselves and engage with the world.

A Quote I Like:

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.”

―Maya Angelou

A Little Bit About Me:

I have been a research professor of health and human development at Penn State University for 31 years. My field is prevention science and I love working with college students and with communities and organizations trying to implement prevention strategies. I’m also a single mom to three adopted children, a grandmother to two sweet boys, a dog mom to an adorable corgi-mix and a volunteer firefighter in my community of State College, Pennsylvania. I’m passionate about my family, prevention science, firefighting, the Philadelphia Phillies, my friends, history, and Grinnell of course.
