Grinnell-in-Pittsburgh Summer Picnic

Garth Jones ’88, Tara Meyer ’86, the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, and the Office of Admission invite all members of the Grinnell community and their families to the Grinnell-in-Pittsburgh summer picnic. See old friends, make new ones, and give a special welcome to the just-graduated class of 2017 and the entering class of 2021.

Noon–3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12
Highland Park, Bigelow Grove Shelter
Reservoir Drive in Highland Park
Pittsburgh, PA 15206

Please register with the Office of Development and Alumni Relations online or by phone at 866-850-1846. Online registration will remain open through Saturday, Aug. 5.

Potluck instruction

Please bring your own lunch, as well as something to share with others, such as fruit, salad, chips, cookies, etc.

The shelter is equipped with picnic tables, and there is a portable toilet available on site. Please bring additional lawn chairs, blankets, and recreational equipment (Frisbees, lawn games, etc.) if you can. The park offers a variety of activities, including hiking, biking, and swimming. Those who want to engage in activities away from the picnic might want to arrive earlier so that they can enjoy the picnic during the noon– 3:30 p.m. time period. The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium is adjacent to the park. If you have any questions, please contact Garth at garth@slaughterhousegallery.com.

We look forward to seeing you!

Rain plan

If the day is a complete rainout, we will meet at 1 p.m. at the Harris Grill, 5747 Ellsworth Ave. in Shadyside. If you need to check the picnic status, please call Tara at 412-849-1990.

Direction

For those of you who attended last year, we are having the picnic in the same place. Bigelow Grove Shelter can be found along Reservoir Drive in Highland Park. Bus lines 71A and 71B have stops close to the N. Highland Avenue entrance to the park. Enter the park on N. Highland Avenue and follow the Reservoir Drive loop in the park; the shelter is near the road along the section where the road is farthest from the reservoir. Parking for the shelter is on the shoulder of the road. Additional directions can be found online: pittsburghparks.org/highland-park.
