Your Sock is a Fractal

Drawing on the writings of Octavia Butler and Adrienne Maree Brown, participants will learn about fractal theory, and how shaping our world can start small, like a hole in a sock. Participants will also get a brief overview of mending techniques, and will start darning a sock or patching jeans by the end of the hour.

Workshop Time and Date: Thursday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. CT
Workshop Lead: Olivia Caro ’17

Meet Olivia

Olivia is an artist and an arts educator living in Philadelphia with their turtle, Carmen. Recently, they have been reading authors like Octavia Butler and Adrienne Maree Brown, and thinking about fractals and starting small while shaping the world we want to live in. This thinking has converged with the practice of repurposing scrap fabrics and mending their worn out clothes. Participants in this workshop will explore some of these concepts while learning to darn a sock and mend jeans.
