Bring the whole family to Reunion!

Please note: all childcare options are subject to change.

There are many children's programs options available:

Young Child Daycare - Ages 6 weeks to 5 years

Personnel at the Iowa licensed Grinnell Community Day Care Center, located at 10th Avenue and Penrose Street, will provide child care for children 6 weeks to 5 years.  Care is available on Sunday in two sessions:

  • 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.  Lunch and snacks are provided
  • 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.  Dinner is provided

Camp Grinnell – Ages 6-11 years

An adult counselor and current Grinnell students provide on-campus activities for young people aged 6 years to 11 years.  Camp Grinnell provides a look into life on campus with fun activities that will teach your kids a little about your campus.  Camp is available on Sunday in two sessions:

  • 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Lunch and snacks are provided
  • 4 p.m. – 10 p.m.  Dinner at Pagliai’s Pizza

Young Pioneers Teen Program

Teens are encouraged to meet other teens with age appropriate activities and programs. Led by an adult camp professional with assistance from several college-age counselors the programs are structured to give them just the right amount of freedom balanced with planned activities. A teen lounge is provide for a little bit of unstructured time in the evening session. The teen program is available on Sunday in two sessions:

Young Pioneers Teen Program: Adventureland Day Trip – Ages 12-17 years

9 a.m.-5 p.m.

In this session, teens up to 17 years old can register for a day trip to Adventureland Park in Des Moines. Visit the famous Iowa amusement park and enjoy the day with other teens. Admission and transportation will be provided along with snacks and drinks on the bus. Please send money with your teen for lunch.

Young Pioneers Teen Program: Evening at CERA – Ages 12-15 years

5:30-11 p.m.

Young teens will enjoy dinner and ice cream at Grinnell’s favorite ice cream venue, Dari Barn. Following dinner, the group will board transportation to the Grinnell College Conard Environmental Research Area (CERA), located eleven miles from the campus. The group will enjoy evening activities on the prairie and will end the night with a bonfire and star gazing.

There is an additional charge for these programs. 

Activities are subject to change but will be set in advance. A schedule will be mailed to registrants approximately 2 weeks before the start of Reunion.

Please note that both Camp Grinnell and the Young Pioneers Teen Programs are not run by licensed child care providers. These programs are intended to be similar to camp programs. If your child needs special supervision please tell us when you register (send an email to Failure to provide special considerations and/or needs of a child in advance may result in your child not being able to participate. Our goal is the safety and enjoyment of your child and the other children in the program. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Where do we check in and pick up our children?

Young Child Care (6 weeks-5 years)
Shuttle – There is a shuttle that will meet at the front of JRC. If you use the shuttle service to the Grinnell Community Day Care Center, you are required to accompany your child to and from the center. A photo ID is required for safe pick-up of your child.  Please make sure to bring your completed registration/medical release form and a car seat (if required) for your child.

Drop Off - Parents often chose to drop their child off at the Grinnell Community Daycare themselves. This is permitted. A photo ID is required for safe pick-up of your child.  Please make sure to bring your completed registration/medical release form for your child. If you choose to drop off your child, please let us know at registration.

Camp Grinnell (6-11 year)
Children attending Camp Grinnell may be dropped off and picked up at the Harris Center Game Room. Signs directing you to the game room will be found inside the building. Please make sure to bring your completed forms with you. A photo ID will be required for check-in and check-out.

Young Pioneers Teen Program
Teens will check in at the JRC (Joe Rosenfield ’25 Center) first floor game room. Although teens do not need to be checked in by a parent, they must bring all relevant paperwork with them. All teens who are registered must stay with our counselors until the conclusion of the program.

What is the schedule of events?

A schedule of events will be listed here as soon as we have an idea of how many children we will have and what their ages will be.  Check back later for more information.  If your child is required to bring any special items, we will contact you before Reunion.

What should my child bring? 

Young Child Care (6 weeks-5 years)
If you have an infant or toddler who needs diapers, formula and/or baby food, you are expected to provide these supplies. If your child requires any medications during the weekend, there will be additional paperwork for you to fill out at the Day Care Center. Please label all clothes and toys! 

Camp Grinnell (6-11 years)
On Sunday, the kids will spend time at the natatorium and will venture outside for recreational activities. Please bring/send recreational clothing and shoes. We have sunscreen for Sunday afternoon's outdoor activities, but send your child with extra if he/she is sensitive. 

Young Pioneers Teen Program
Teens participating in the day program should bring cash for lunch and wear comfortable shoes. It is also a good idea to make sure they wear sunscreen and we encourage a hat or sunglasses for sunny days.

Those participating in the evening program should bring a jacket. 

How much does the Sunday childcare program cost?

Young Child Care: 6 weeks–5 years
Day: 9 a.m.–5 p.m. $80 per child
Evening: 5–9p.m.  $50 per child
All Day: 9 a.m.–9 p.m. $130 per child

Camp Grinnell: 6–11 years
Day: 9 a.m.–3 p.m. $60 per child
Evening: 4–10 p.m. $60 per child
All Day: 9 a.m.–5 p.m. & 4–10 p.m. $120 per child

Young Pioneers Teen Program
Day: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. $60 per teen (12-17 years)
Evening: 5:30-11 p.m. $50 per teen (12-15 years)

How may we arrange child care afterhours or at other times?

A list of Reunion student staff who are available on Saturday and Sunday night, and who are interested in babysitting for individual families, will be available at the Registration Desk.  You are responsible for contacting, arranging and paying these sitters.  We recommend that sitters be paid between $7-$9 per hour.
