Gof Thomson '62 believes in giving back. He is actively involved with the College and with many community organizations and foundations. After graduation, Gof attended the University of Minnesota and obtained a L.L.B. and J.D. in '65. After transitioning his career from private practice to the banking industry a few times between Illinois and Wisconsin, Gof retired from a thirty year career with the Bank of New Glarus as the CEO in 2012.
While a student at Grinnell, Gof was involved in SGA Cabinet, and Cross Country and Track (earning an Honor G). Since graduation he has held a number of roles including Class Agent, Admission Representative, Alumni Class Officer within the Chicago area, and Class Committee member. Currently, he serves as the co-Class Fund Director for 1962. Within his community, Gof has served as a Boy Scout leader, a member of the Community Chest (a New Glarus community foundation), and an active participant with the New Glarus Lions Club. He also has actively participated in political campaigns at the local level for the Wisconsin Assembly and Senate, and he has served with Clean Wisconsin.
Gof has been seen on campus talking to Phonathon callers about his experience fundraising, and visiting the Conrad Environmental Research Area. Gof is married to Mary and has a wonderful family that makes each day rewarding with four children and 4 grandchildren. He remains grateful for having the stunning opportunities given to him - to serve his family, his businesses, his community, and his college.
