Allison Brinkhorst '11
Grinnell Major: Sociology; Gender, Women's, & Sexuality Studies
Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Executive Committee
Allison would happily move back to Grinnell in a heartbeat. During her time as a student, she led ReNew Orleans, the Student Ceramic Studio, Healthy Relationship Classes for at-risk youth, and the Grinnell Ambassadors Program in the Office of Admissions. She majored in both sociology and Gender, Women’s, & Sexuality Studies because she couldn’t turn down any classes those departments offered. Grinnell awarded her the Jeanne Burkle Award in Women’s Studies and the Judith Louise McKim Sociology Scholarship, and she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa her senior year. After graduating, she spent a fifth year in Grinnell as the Grinnell Corps fellow working for Mid-Iowa Community Action, Inc.
Originally from St. Louis, Allison now lives in Portland, Oregon. She earned her Masters in Nonprofit Management from University of Oregon, and now works as the Development Coordinator for Ecotrust. A staunch supporter of social justice, she is an active member of Social Justice Fund NW. Since moving to the Pacific Northwest, Allison has been enjoying the many opportunities for hiking and camping along oceans, mountains, lakes, and rivers.
