Grinnell-in-the-Corridor: Get to Know Your Grinnellian

Get to Know Your Grinnellian is an hour-long event centered on community-building and familiarizing alumni in the area with other alumni in the area! Each event features a live interview with one alumni member of the community to learn more about what led them to Grinnell, what their post-Grinnell journey looked like, and what they have been doing since then to live and thrive in the Corridor. After each event, we will hold a Q&A and discussion with participating audience members.
The inaugural edition of the event will feature David O’Donaghue, Psy.D. ’77:
David graduated from Grinnell in 1977 with an art and religious studies double-major. He went on to become a clinical psychologist, receiving his masters in Art Therapy at Antioch University Seattle and his doctorate at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago. He went back to Seattle to establish a private practice and teach on the core faculty of Antioch. In 1995, he undertook a second doctorate in philosophy at the University of New Mexico and the University of South Carolina. In 2000, he established his own school called The Lyceum for elective adult education first in the mountains of North Carolina, then in New Orleans and Baltimore. He created several other educational programs along the way.
When he moved to Iowa, he designed and built a 12-bed retreat center in Eastern Iowa on 47 acres of beautiful rolling hills, called Terramuse. He lives in Mount Vernon and works now as the executive director of Terramuse. He is currently training to be a psychedelic therapist in order to be a guide and train guides for the University of Iowa research project in the use of psilocybin in the treatment of methamphetamine addiction.
