This space is officially named in gratitude of the generosity of Stephen G. Moyer ’79 in honor of David L. Palmer ’62.
Tribute
Without the mentoring of David Palmer ’62, Steve Moyer would not have attended Grinnell. Dave was Steve’s history professor at the Des Moines Area Community College. He recognized Steve was not being aspirational enough, convinced him to transfer to Grinnell, and then convinced his parents it was worth the investment.
Steve went on to receive a J.D. from Stanford and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and enjoyed a stimulating and rewarding career in law, finance and most recently teaching; none of which would have happened but for Dave’s energy and compassion. Steve tries to honor the role Dave played in his life by also mentoring students and preserving the mission of Grinnell as a Trustee.
Funding a History faculty office in David Palmer’s name commemorates his long-time commitment to Grinnell, love of history and dedication to educational advancement.
