Tribute
Having access to Grinnell College’s first-rate education has transformed our lives. Our education at Grinnell College taught us how to be critical consumers of information, how to ask the right questions, and how to think about and act on our most cherished values. As important, it inspired us to remain lifelong learners. It brings us great pleasure to name a space in the new Humanities and Social Science Center—a space where we both took challenging and life-changing courses and grew as citizens of the world—after the people who first conveyed the great value of a liberal arts education to us and who have continually inspired us to follow our dreams: our parents, Veronica Onwuachi and Susan & David Willig. Our parents filled our homes with books, fed our strong desires to learn throughout our childhoods, and worked incredibly hard to give us the very few resources they had to support our education and nourish our minds and our hearts. We are grateful to our parents for their love and support, and we hope that all students who work, study, and/or create community in this space are buoyed by the same hopes, love, and support we have received throughout our lives from our parents.
