Alumni Virtual Events

The Office of Development and Alumni Relations collaborates with alumni, regional network planning committees, students, parents, and friends to host virtual events for the Grinnell community. As with all events hosted by our office, our goal is to gather Grinnellians together for fun, learning, and a shared sense of community.

The format of the events below may vary depending on the content and purpose of the event. Every event will list the technology platform being used (Cisco webex, Zoom, etc.) and we encourage you to download that platform in advance of the event.

Also, in these uncertain times, events may need to be postponed or adapted if a host becomes ill or if circumstances change. We appreciate your flexibility as we work through these things together.

Dive into Grinnell College’s Endowment: Myths, Truths, and Your Questions Answered

Join us for a dynamic and interactive phone call where we’ll address myths vs. realities, reveal truths, and answer your burning questions about Grinnell College’s endowment and finances. During this call you’ll hear from Chief Investment Officer JT Thayer and Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer Germaine Gross.

Moderated by Alumni Council member Grisel Hernandez ’17, discussion highlights will include:

  • How endowments work and investment policies
  • Impact on academic excellence, student experience, and access to education
  • Understanding the endowment’s “net flow rate” and comparisons with peer institutions
  • The importance of philanthropy for financial aid and the endowment’s future
  • Ask your questions!

How it works:

  1. On September 9 at about 7 p.m. CT, Germaine and JT will call you for a live and interactive conversation.
  2. You will answer your phone to immediately join the call. You will be able to ask questions directly to Germaine and JT by pressing *3 to join the question queue.
  3. Germaine and JT will provide an overview of the endowment and will then answer as many questions as possible in about 30 minutes.

To ensure you receive the call, please consider the following:

  • If your phone number has changed and you want to make sure we have your correct number on record, please provide your preferred phone number by September 3 by emailing annualgiving@grinnell.edu or calling 866-850-1846.

If you can’t be reached at your preferred number and still want to participate, call toll-free 855-962-1495 or you can join via web by coming to this page.

You may also opt of receiving the call by emailing annualgiving@grinnell.edu. In your email, please be sure to include your name and class year, if applicable.

A recording of the call will also be posted on the endowment phonecast landing page by September 16.
