Outside of academics, basketball was a large part of my decision to come to Grinnell. During an admitted students program, I had the opportunity to meet other prospective students who were coming to Grinnell, including one of my current teammates. I also spent a lot of time with the women’s basketball team. That was when I decided I wanted to be a part of the Grinnell women’s basketball family.
We pride ourselves on being a family. It’s not easy to become as cohesive a team as we want to be, and it’s not something that comes automatically. We actively work toward it. Our coaching staff does a great job of fostering that environment, and the upperclassmen on the team are very inviting to new team members.
When I say we’re a family, that extends off the court too. When people are giving presentations for classes or are part of a student organization that’s hosting an event, we reach out to our teammates and they’re there to support us.
Having worked Reunion and the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI), and having completed an externship with an alum, I’ve seen how Grinnellians’ friendship extends beyond the College, which is comforting to me as a senior. I’m excited to become part of the alumni network and give back to the College that’s given me so much. Your gifts give me a family.
