Alumni Virtual Events

The Office of Development and Alumni Relations collaborates with alumni, regional network planning committees, students, parents, and friends to host virtual events for the Grinnell community. As with all events hosted by our office, our goal is to gather Grinnellians together for fun, learning, and a shared sense of community.

The format of the events below may vary depending on the content and purpose of the event. Every event will list the technology platform being used (Cisco webex, Zoom, etc.) and we encourage you to download that platform in advance of the event.

Also, in these uncertain times, events may need to be postponed or adapted if a host becomes ill or if circumstances change. We appreciate your flexibility as we work through these things together.

Grinnell-in-Washington, D.C.: Service Project with Little Falls Watershed Alliance

Grinnell-in-Washington, D.C.: Service Project with Little Falls Watershed Alliance

Sarah Morse ’77, David Kathan ’78, and the Little Falls Watershed Alliance (LFWA) invite you to celebrate Grinnell College's Founder's Day by joining them for a Grinnell-in-Washington, D.C. service project.

At the service site, we will free the native bushes that are being strangled and crowded out by non-native vines and shrubs. All the work is done with hand tools and we think you'll find it very satisfying to see the trees emerge from under the mounds of vines. One of our volunteers once said she could hear the trees thanking her. This activity is appropriate for all ages, so bring your kids!

Grinnell-in-Washington, D.C.: Service Project
Saturday, June 10
10 a.m.–noon

Meet at the Corner of Dorset Ave. and Little Falls Parkway
Chevy Chase, MD 20815
(Near 4923 Dorset Ave.)

How do I register? Please register through the Little Falls Watershed Alliance volunteer page.

What should I wear or bring? LFWA will provide all the necessary tools and gloves. No need to bring your own. Please wear long pants that cover your ankles, long sleeves, and sturdy, closed-toed shoes or boots. This is not hard work, but we will be outside so make sure you have sunscreen, bug spray, and cold water to drink.

What if it rains? Our policy is to work rain or shine, but participants can cancel if they feel it's best. If it's drizzling, we will try to move the work site to a more protected area to make the day easier. If the weather will be unsafe (lightning/strong winds) we will contact the group to cancel that morning.

We hope to see you there!
