Alumni Virtual Events

The Office of Development and Alumni Relations collaborates with alumni, regional network planning committees, students, parents, and friends to host virtual events for the Grinnell community. As with all events hosted by our office, our goal is to gather Grinnellians together for fun, learning, and a shared sense of community.

The format of the events below may vary depending on the content and purpose of the event. Every event will list the technology platform being used (Cisco webex, Zoom, etc.) and we encourage you to download that platform in advance of the event.

Also, in these uncertain times, events may need to be postponed or adapted if a host becomes ill or if circumstances change. We appreciate your flexibility as we work through these things together.

Community Enhancement Awards Presentation - Grinnell College a recipient

Grinnell College receives Community Enhancement Through Architecture Award

Grinnell College has been selected to win a 2020 Community Enhancement Through Architecture & Design award from the Iowa Architectural Foundation (IAF). The selection process included a statewide call for entries and selection by a jury of five, including architects and community leaders.

Grinnell College was selected for its outstanding and sustained contributions, vision, and leadership in architecture and planning.

“Grinnell has reached out over time to create an incredible collection of buildings – which is different than something done episodically,” the jury stated. “There is a commitment to excellence and quality, and it takes a great deal more dedication and perseverance to maintain that sort of course. It’s what sets a neighborhood or a campus apart.”

IAF’s awards program was established to recognize those individuals, organizations, agencies, or communities outside the architectural profession, who have had a significant and sustained positive impact on the quality of life in Iowa through their support of architecture, landscape architecture, and/or urban design. The goal of the recognition program is to inspire others to follow.

Two awards are to be given for 2020. John and Mary Pappajohn of Des Moines will receive the other award for the Pappajohn Sculpture Park and the University of Iowa Education Building, both in Des Moines, and the Pappajohn Business Building, the Biomedical Discovery Building and Pappajohn Pavilion at University Hospitals in Iowa City

IAF invites Grinnellians to a virtual celebration of the awards at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 20. The free event will include interviews of the recipients, architectural and drone photography, and video content. Register for the event on Eventbrite.
