Grinnell-in-Philadelphia: Lunch & Discuss

Thursday, December 3, 2020 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Grinnell-in-Philadelphia: Lunch & Discuss

Did you love the great conversations you would have at Grinnell? Do you still enjoy diving in and learning more about a topic?

If so, grab your lunch and join your fellow greater-Philadelphia-area Grinnellians for a biweekly virtual "Lunch & Discuss" session. Every other Thursday at noon, gather with local Grinnellians on Zoom to discuss a topic chosen by that session's alumni host. A few days before the lunch, the host will email the links of a few related articles for the group to read in advance of the conversation. The host and topic changes for each session so there is always something new to learn and talk about!

Thursday, Dec. 3
Noon–1 p.m. ET

Qanon as Religion
hosted by Visiting Assistant Professor Elliot Ratzman

More than half of Trump supporters report that they believe in the claims of the Qanon movement. The rise of Qanon tells us a lot about how religious ideas spread, the lure of secret knowledge, how a community makes meaning out of cryptic signs, and what happens to believers when prophecy fails. In this session, we'll discuss how the study of religion can illuminate these political myths.
