Grinnell-in-the-Twin Cities:
Crash Course in Contemporary Art
Join your local Grinnell community for a dessert reception and "crash course" on contemporary art at the Walker Art Center! Ross Elfline ’95, associate professor of Art History at Carleton College, will lead us in a brief introduction to some of the most challenging and important art of our time, as seen in the Walker’s new installation of works from their permanent collection. Titled I am you, you are too, the exhibit features a wide range of artists from the last 40 years who have looked at how geopolitical borders, citizenship, and identity have shifted radically in recent years, changing how we understand our senses of self and the world around us.

While often challenging, contemporary art can offer a new lens through which we can look at our current condition. But there’s no need to be too serious about this! Join us for a dessert reception in a festive atmosphere of spirited discussion. The lecture and reception will take place in the Cityview Room; if you would like to visit the galleries, we encourage you to arrive early to do so, as they will close at 9 p.m.
Registration
The reception will include an assortment of desserts, regular and decaffeinated coffee, soft drinks, and a beer and wine bar. One alcoholic beverage per person is included and additional beverages will be available for purchase. Registration for this event is $20 per person, regardless of age. Please note that pre-registration for this event is required.
Online registration will remain open until the mid-afternoon on Thursday, November 2. If you find that online registration has closed and you would like to attend, please call Anna Halpin-Healy ’13, assistant director of alumni and donor relations for regional programs, at 641-269-3186 (office) or 641-990-9622 (cell).
Please contact Karmi Mattson '97, Grinnell-in-the-Twin Cities regional coordinator, at 97grinnellian@gmail.com with any questions.
We look forward to seeing you there!
